Goal of the “ThWIC Data” project is the development and provision of the technical infrastructure needed for the storage, exchange, security, and documentation of data and results in the entire cluster. The project team functions as the central contact for all aspects of data management in ThWIC, provides support, conducts trainings, and takes on coordination and networking tasks with other actors, such as the German National Research Data Infrastructure (nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur, NFDI).
The data management platform being developed will both ensure the exchange between ThWIC’s various projects, as well as provide access to the data to other users from science, industry, and society. The data provided will conform to the FAIR principles to the greatest possible extent. In the first step, an operational basis infrastructure will be established. This basis infrastructure builds on existing components and will be subsequently gradually expanded with innovative modules and services. The long-term goal is to create a data lake infrastructure that enables a linking and integrating of heterogeneous data from research and the industry. In this process, the University of Jena assumes the role of cloud provider and, in doing so, ensures long-term data sovereignty and data availability. The company Batix Software GmbH will develop, among others, a metadata model, an architectural concept, workflows, and interfaces for different data types.
