Brief description of the project

The “WaterLab” project creates (further) educational offers that offer vivid experiences due to their interactive and immersive nature, and which have a social impact for the water sector. “WaterLab” establishes a learning environment demonstrator for visualisation and interaction in social, mixed reality. This demonstrator is to serve as a communication platform for conveying structures, technologies, processes, and potential innovations of the water sector. It further serves as a development platform for the modelling of local infrastructures of the water supply and for communicating these infrastructures transparently through civic participation. The demonstrator is to be a virtual experimental lab for potential effects of changes in water use and water treatment and to serve as basis for the development of a training environment for vocational training in the water sector.

In collaboration with other ThWIC projects, the virtual learning environment is supposed to serve as a possible integration platform for real-time data from sensor systems in the water supply. The planned application considers itself an open development platform that enables citizens (especially teachers and students at schools and universities) to model supply infrastructures together with experts from the water sector and to simulate water cycles within it, as well as to recreate possible innovations in experiments.
